A view of

A view of "the Link" we will soon begin to see in concrete.

September 26 to October 3, 2007
Greetings from the Meeting House!
After the maelstrom of two weeks ago, there is a serenity about the Project. But do not interpret that as inactivity.

Renovation
The light bulbs are here, but due to a production glitch, the rings are not ready. So, we keep parking the lift in various spots.

A common question on the tours is, “What are you going to do about the floors?”  I always answer “We’re going to discuss them for a year.”  That in fact is a prudent approach.  When we interviewed preservation architects there were two clear points of view: 1) restore the floors to how they were intended to look, and 2) respect the evidence of 55 years of use.  The floors do need some type of treatment, but we have to make sure that whatever we do is reversible until we decide to make a permanent change.  The D wing is planned to have an applied color layer, but we haven’t made a selection between competing products, so one thought would be to see if the treatment in D would be appropriate for A.

The offices are complete, with moving day(s) on October 1st and 2nd.  Stop by on Saturday and claim some of our no longer needed furniture.

And what about that plywood where windows should be in the back hallway?  Because we don’t have sprinklers in the Historic Meeting House, we are required to have a two hour fire barrier between the A and B wings. We had temporary plywood in the windows while we waited for the arrival of custom fireproof glass.  The glass went in today and it looks great.

The Big Dig

The hole is not planned to get any bigger, and we will see less of it because we will pour the retaining wall next week. You can see the top of it in the drawing.  The design is very compact, and there were coordinating meeting to sort out what goes in first. The plumbing is deepest, then heating ducts, then electrical, then radiant heat.

When the forms come down from the retaining wall we will see our first big expanse of the board formed concrete.
