Greetings from Icy
University Bay Drive
Construction progresses with extra shoveling and scraping. The ice is off the copper roof, but it did punch a small hole in the Channing trailer on its way to the ground. Everything is slippery. The trailer decks are not as slick as the construction lot, but be careful.
I am anxious to have the construction floor safe and dry so we can resume tours. The space is truly inspirational, and not at all as vast as the drawings imply.
Historic Auditorium
The ceiling light trim rings are due to be shipped February 1, so they should be installed in early February. That means we will see the return of the Genie R-30 power lift. The electrician is aware of the bulbs that have failed and he will correct the situation when the lift is here.
"Sidewalk Supervision"
(What you can see of the construction from the sidewalk)
Standing on the sidewalk, closest to the B-wing you can see the skeleton of the RE and Nursery school storage rooms. The interior wall of the D wing classroom and the exterior wall of the C-wing hallway are up and visible.
The gray steel posts that project upward are "shear columns" intended to add strength to the building preventing it from "racking" in the wind. They will be painted with a wood-grain texture.
On The Site
The beams that form the rim of the balcony are being installed. This requires some fitting to accommodate the curved edge.
