FUS Hard Hat Update

July 9, 2008

East Courtyard: It’s becoming a courtyard. Note the new railing

Greetings

Cool mornings, sunny days, if it weren’t for the dust, mud and mess, life at 900 University Bay would be near perfect. Paving is scheduled for early August.

Sidewalk Superintending

With a new sidewalk and topsoil the Campus is really starting to take shape. The new stone wall in the berm is for the Kitchen ventilator.  There are stubs of gray pipe projecting from the ground which will connect to bollard (short post) lights. From Marshall Court you can see The East Courtyard Walls.

Inside

The saws are out of the Auditorium, and the clean-up has begun. The Venetian Plaster wall is done. I was gazing at it, and the plasterer said, “You can touch it.”  It feels like polished marble.

Carpentry activity has shifted to the wall and sliding doors for the Library.

Last week the ironworkers drilled too deep and punctured a radiant heat line.  It’s pressurized, so they had a miniature geyser to alert them to their error. The patch is good, and all is well.

Plumbers and steamfitters are busy in the Mechanical rooms. The water is back on, which will make it easier to water the new grass on the back side.

Linoleum (a renewable material from linseed oil) is going in the C wing classrooms today.

Volunteers

We will be painting C wing classrooms in about three weeks. There will be lots of planting , seeding and watering starting the week of July 14.

Woodworkers, do not despair, you are not forgotten. We are putting a lot of thought into what sorts of furnishings we want to make. If you want to work, and Rae Gilbertson doesn’t have you name, e-mail her at rg@mailbag.com.
