Pay for your Cabaret
Purchases here via Paypal or Credit Card

Thanks for Coming to Cabaret. We hope you had a good time. We sure didi!

Please click on the "Add to Cart" button below to begin your secure payment to FUS for your Auction items. This will bring you to the shopping cart, where you will have the opportunity to enter the amount you wish to pay.

While we have you here, just a short comment on the role of the credit card system here. While very convenient, credit cards are not free. It costs FUS about 3% of your purchase to accept payment in this manner. So if the amount you are paying is substantial, it might be better to send us a check. FUS will get more funds, and that of course is the reason for Cabaret.

Alternatively, you might consider throwing in a few extra $$ to pay for those costs. It certainly would be appreciated.

And just to be sure we said it, here are our sincere thanks again for supporting the Ministries and programs of First Unitarian Society.

(A109) The Redesign of Tomorrowland by Bert
Science Fiction (or is it?):
The world of tomorrow exists today, but only for those who can spot the true experts. . . . And never before in human history has it been so crucial to spot these experts sooner rather than later. You see, progress is accelerating—our technological advance is rocketing toward a flashpoint of alarming and breathtaking change. People need to recognize what is happening and take action before it’s too late. . . . But can they? A legion of false experts stand in their way.

(A112) “Sundown (Silence of Mind)”
This is a two-color (red and black with white highlights) woodcut print from an edition of 10.
In a black ground setting amid a solemn red sunset, a solitary, exhausted farmer rests his arm on a post, after a long, hard day. His long, emaciated figure reveals the influence of famous American scene artist (and former US Senator) Thomas Hart Benton and perhaps cartoonist R. Crumb. However, Benton rarely if ever worked in wood block prints, lithography being his primary printmaking medium. He’s best known as a painter as the contemporary of Grant Wood and John Steuart Curry and the artistic mentor of Jackson Pollock. So “Sundown” is an utterly distinctive work that speaks to the plight of today’s small farmer. I previously donated one of the prints to a Public TV auction in Milwaukee and it sold after vigorous bidding. The large, framed and beige-matted print image is 17 1/2" by 11 3/8".
Though I’ve revived my output as an artist in the last few years, I’m better known as the former arts writer for The Capital Times (1989-2008).

The development of the Gutenberg Press in the mid-1400’s made it possible to print books with greater ease and efficiency. The sisters helped to support their community by selling their paste papers to publishers for covering books and pamphlets. Each cover represents a different method of decoration: combing, brushing, and stippling. Learn more about Lorna’s artwork at www.inward-bound.us.

In the evenings we’ll share great food, lively conversation, board games, perhaps a campfire. We’ll car pool to the cabin on Thursday evening, September 9, returning to Madison on Sunday afternoon, September 12.

Loose the weight you want to! Keep it off permanently! It is simple (but not easy) This method incorporates exercise with diet in a way that fits your food preferences and life style. (E324) Old Testament Wine
In May I will meet in Israel with the Old Testament scholar, James Kugel. I have many questions to ask him about his book, How To Read the Bible (http://www.jameskugel.com/). For example, what does it mean to be a monotheist or a Jew since he has demonstrated that many key events, such as the Exodus from Egypt, did not happen and that several editors assembled and re-wrote various chapters of the Old Testament? What does he worship when he goes to the Wailing Wall, a wall he has demonstrated was not the wall of Biblical times? Join me in a discussion of these and other issues as we share wine and a slide show of our trip to Israel. Date for gathering to be arranged.
Capacity: 20 people/ Valued at $20 per person

Enjoy some wine and good conversation while visiting with artist and FUS member Lee Weiss at her home/studio in Madison on May 7 from 4–6 p.m. Lee is a well known watercolorist whose hauntingly beautiful landscapes have been showcased in galleries and museums across the country for more than 50 years. Bruce Pepich, the executive director of Racine Art Museum, writes “[Lee’s] paintings are infused with air, water, earth, light, and movement. Although they are masterfully executed, it is the spirit within these paintings that is exhilarating. It is clear the viewer is not looking at nature but into it through the artist’s eyes.” You can see a print of Lee’s painting “Late March” at Cabaret (auction article A103).

So set aside a few blissful hours on Saturday afternoon, May 22 (rain date, Sunday, May 23) to get away from it all and have a pretty darn non-serious round of golf at Madison’s premier casual golf locale, Glenway Municipal Golf course. (No, they don't even have a driving range!) We may play a few games as we play, and yes, you are allowed as many mulligans as you like. After our round, we’ll retire to the clubhouse for a casual-but-tasty grill-up and of course, drinks, all on us. We may or may not add up our scores, but our only handicapps will be the all those darn trees on the fourth hole. Bid high—only four can join us!
