2. The toggle switch on the right front of the console powers up the sound system.

4. Make sure charged batteries are in the lavalier and other microphones as needed.

Log into the computer

Start the webcasts

1. Double click the icon on the left side labeled “Start Webcast #1”
2. Windows Media Encoder 9 will start.
3. A window appears, and the green “Start Encoding” button should appear. Click it. Meter bars should appear on the left side of the window, and a flashing bar appears on the bottom right. You are on the air!
4. Repeat this process with “Start Webcast #2,” also on the left side of the screen.

Record the service

1. Double click the red icon on the desktop titled “Record Audio in Auditorium”
2. To prepare for recording, click the record icon; it is a small red circle in the upper left hand corner, the far left icon in the second row of the tool bar. You may also hold down the control key and type “R”
3. A record window opens. A few minutes before your event starts, press the record button, again a small red circle, in that window. It is to the right of the word “prepare.”

Finishing Up

When your event ends, here are a few things to do:

1. Stop your recording by clicking on the square button.
2. Important! Save your recording in Sound Forge!
a. From the Sound Forge menu, choose “file/save” (or type control+S).
b. A “Save As” window will appear.
c. Name your file EXACTLY this way: YYYY-mm-dd-ttam, such as
2007-09-22-09am. It may take a few minutes to save. It should be a WAV file.
d. Close Sound Forge if it is the end of the day. (type control+Q)
2. If you are the last service, stop internet encoding. If you are the first service, you may leave it on between services, but close the microphones if you do.
3. Log off the computer if you are the last person, but don’t turn it off.
4. Turn off the computer monitor if you are the last person.
5. Put batteries in their chargers.
6. Lock the sound system and put the key in its place.

Sound System Update 10/07

1. Powering up the system. There is new toggle switch on the front, right. It works exactly the same, except the light is green.

2. Computer interface. Things are basically the same; New however is you can easily monitor the mix going out, and ride the gain a bit on the webcast/recording. We will shortly be separating the webcast and recording so you can individually adjust them, and going to a stereo webcast.

3. New Microphones. The “music mic” has been replaced by two new hanging choir mics. These are intended to be used primarily for the recording and webcast, and are always sent to that mix without opening the faders. If you need to pick up someone speaking off-mic in the front of the room, you can add them to the Auditorium PA by opening the faders, but BE CAREFUL: Feedback is a likely result of adding these to the PA mix!

4. Monitoring Options. You now have a way to monitor the three mixes separately via the headphones. On the upper right side (figure 1) is a section with a level control for your headphones and a series of switches to allow you monitor the three mixes, Loggia/Lobby, Webcast, and Auditorium. The default is the M (Auditorium) mix. The M switch should normally be depressed. You may listen to the other mixes by pressing the buttons (Aux 4, Aux 3, etc.).

5. Individual Fader Mutes. Every fader has a mute button (figure 2) above it; you can instantly open or close that source with the mute button without adjusting the fader. Very handy. We suggest you preset the levels and use the mutes.

6. PFL monitoring. Just below the mute switch is the PFL switch. Depressing this activates monitoring of this source in the headphones. Wondering if that mic is working? Use the PFL.

7. Individual Fader Monitoring. Just to the left of the PFL switch are two LEDS; the green one indicates a signal is present. The red one indicates a signal near distortion. If red is on, bring down the level.

8. AUX level controls. The six knobs in figure three control the level in the three mixes being sent to three locations; The Loggia/Lobby speakers, the webcast/recording; and the Auditorium PA system. Normally, these should be in the “three o’clock” position; however we suggest you monitor the computer levels for the webcast and recording and adjust the level of Aux 4 (Webcast) as necessary for a good level. Use the computer display to help you see the levels.

9. Don’t fuss with the other knobs. Most of the 5144 knobs and buttons on the mixer are preset and should not be adjusted. Please adjust only the items above. Extraneous adjusting will cause everyone migraines. Thanks!
