March 10 & 11 – Seeing Emotional Labor

“Emotional labor,” a term coined by Arlie Russell Hochschild in 1983 has exploded in popularity in recent years as we work to understand how the job field and the home remain deeply gendered. What is emotional labor? And how does it help us understand why so much of the work our society claims to value–such as teaching, caregiving and domestic labor–remains so poorly compensated?

On Saturday, the Cherub and Chorister Choirs will sing, and on Sunday, the Teen Choir, directed by Heather Thorpe, will sing.
