In this unprecedented moment in our country’s immigration story, FUS is rallying to support our immigrant neighbors. You are invited to join this effort by attending the “Sweet Justice” fundraiser on Friday, June 26, 6:00 – 8:00 pm in the Atrium Auditorium. The evening will begin with a delicious dessert buffet, followed by a program of informative speakers and inspirational music provided by members of Singing Resistance. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Sara McKinnon, UW-Madison professor and expert in immigration policy and politics in the Americas. All donations will go to support Voces de la Frontera’s Legal Aid Fund and to provide direct assistance to families facing financial hardship due to ICE actions.
Doors will open at 6:00 p.m., with time to enjoy desserts, coffee, wine, and other beverages. The formal program begins at 7:00 p.m. In addition to the keynote speaker, other speakers will address the role that local schools and groups like Voces de la Frontera are playing in assisting immigrant families here in Dane County. A brief performance and sing-along with Singing Resistance will conclude the evening.
All are welcome to attend. While advance registration is encouraged, admission donations will also be accepted at the door (cash or credit accepted). Suggested donations are requested at three levels: $25, $50, and $100. Event proceeds will be divided between the Legal Aid Fund of the Madison chapter of Voces de la Frontera and family-to-family direct assistance to those facing long-term financial hardship because of ICE detention.
Kids will be admitted free, and free childcare during the event is available upon request. Childcare may be requested up to one week before the event through the online registration form for the event. You will be asked to provide your child(ren)’s name, age, and any relevant dietary or medical information.
The Sweet Justice planning team is looking for 20 bakers to donate delectable desserts, so that the event lives up to its name. Please sign-up below. For further information contact Roberta Carnes or Liz Hachten.
