At First Unitarian Society, we question boldly, listen humbly, grow spiritually, act courageously, and love unapologetically.

Welcome!

There are many ways to engage in learning, sharing, and serving at FUS. Included are opportunities for deep listening, discussion, and the exchange of ideas. Small group ministry takes shape in a variety of experiences—book groups, classes, lectures, movement, art, science, and music. We want to ‘open the doors’ more widely to our community, our faith, and our mission.

Learning together brings us the gifts of growth in self-knowledge and awareness, of support among a loving and intentional community, and of a new depth of connection to Unitarian Universalism.

Plan to schedule some time in the company of others at FUS and see where it might lead.

May we all grow together in relationship and understanding, creating a collective life of purpose and promise.

Yours in fellowship and faith,

Janet Swanson,
Director of Membership

Service Opportunities

Join in the spirit of hospitality and welcome!  There are many ways to contribute to community life at FUS and help cultivate a sense of belonging for everyone from a first time visitor to longstanding members. Volunteering at FUS is a wonderful way to meet people while lending your time, creativity, expertise in ways that benefit our community and beyond. Check out the volunteer page for an overview of service opportunities, and watch the weekly newsletter, News From the Red Floors for current information.

Spiritual Practice, Interest, and Leadership Groups

Participation in a small group is one of most reliable ways to get to know people, to find your way in our diverse community, and even to deepen your own spirituality. Congregations are sometimes described as “communities of communities” with many entry points and ways of belonging. United by our congregational mission to “question boldly, listen humbly, grow spiritually, act courageously, and love unapologetically” there are a wide range of opportunities for discussion and engagement at varying levels.

See our Small Group Ministry page for an overview of groups centered around a shared interest, affinity, justice issue or spiritual practice. See the weekly newsletter, News from the Red Floors, for current information and announcements.

Learning

Religious Exploration across the lifespan adds richness to congregational life. Each program year (September through May) the Children’s Religious Exploration program offers classes for over 200 children and youth, supported by dozens of adult volunteers. For adults, the New UU class is a half-day orientation for newcomers and friends of First Unitarian Society, with introductions to Unitarian Universalism and the life of our faith community is offered several times a year. Pathways, a 10-month spiritual deepening program, is offered annually.

Short-term classes, workshops and other opportunities for study and discussion are offered throughout the year. Watch the weekly newsletter, News from the Red Floors for the latest information and announcements.
